Split Rock Pleiospilos Nelii Succulent Plant Lithops

Pleiospilos nelii, commonly known as “Split Rock,” is a fascinating succulent plant native to South Africa. It belongs to the Aizoaceae family. This plant earned its common name due to its unique appearance, which resembles a split or cracked rock. Pleiospilos nelii typically grows in a compact clump of pairs of thick, grey-green, and flattened leaves with a cleft down the center. The leaves have a rough texture and may have reddish-brown markings, adding to their visual interest. In the wild, Pleiospilos nelii blooms in autumn, producing daisy-like yellow flowers with white or pinkish centers. Cultivated specimens may also bloom under appropriate conditions. Split Rock is prized by succulent enthusiasts for its unusual appearance and is often grown in containers or rock gardens with well-draining soil and ample sunlight.
