Cereus Repandus “Peruvian Apple Cactus”

Cereus repandus, commonly known as “Peruvian Apple Cactus,” is a large, columnar cactus native to South America. It is characterized by its tall, branching stems that can reach heights of up to 30 feet (9 meters) in its native habitat. The stems have distinct ribs and are armed with clusters of spines along their edges. During the spring and summer months, the Peruvian Apple Cactus produces large, showy white or cream-colored flowers that open at night and are pollinated by bats and moths. Following pollination, the plant develops edible, red or purplish fruits known as “pitahayas” or “dragon fruits.” Cereus repandus is drought-tolerant and prefers full sun and well-draining soil. It is often grown ornamentally in landscapes and gardens in warmer climates and is prized for its striking appearance and the delicious fruits it produces.
